2010 Camaro not affected by HPVO

Camaro enthusiasts got a bit nervous this week when it was announced that the GM HPVO (High Performance Vehicle Operations) was being stopped. Engineers from the HPVO were moved to other parts of GM engineering but they left the door open that if and when GM gets back on its feet the operation could be reassembled again. InsideLine spoke with GM spokesman Vince Muniga about regarding the concern of enthusiasts and he stated that the 2010 Camaro SS is arriving and “is not threatened at all.”
Vince Muniga also stated the “Camaro SS, Corvette ZR1 and Corvette Z06 are all regularly engineered cars,” and “They did not go through HPVO. Most people did not realize that. They are safe.”
While there is no direct effect on the Camaro or Corvette, it still seems a bit disheartening to hear that GM may be pulling away from performance oriented automobiles. Sure, we all know the green issues arising but to completely disband their performance operations seems to be a bit drastic of a response to the pressure put on by the government. Some people use automobiles simply for commuting from point-a to point-b, but to many of us others; performance automobiles are a hobby and passion. Lets hope GM doesn’t forget about us.
