If they made a base Camaro 4 Cyl; wouldn't that mean that the SS/Z28 could be exempt from the Gas Guzzler Tax? Possible good idea with what's going on currently.

Gas guzzler tax?
Must be a state tax; the federal one expired 8 years or so I believe.
Maybe it is c.a.f.e. (corporate average fuel economy) that your thinking of.
The only way around that is to be classified as a "light truck" or be very limited production.

Turbo 4 base engine? Why not? The TC balts make 260hp, that's a damn good starting point, I don't think anything less than the 2.4 would be suitable for the Camaro anyway, the 2.0 would struggle too much.

^ I agree. Base V6, upgraded turbo V6, intro level V8, Z/28 V8, and an SS V8 should be the way it goes. It would be nice to see GM start to offer tuner versions like the mustang has been doing for many years now. That is what the customer wants, a wide variety to choose from and one that will fit a wide range of budgets.

Gas Guzzler Tax: Program Overview | Fuel Economy | US EPA

Looks like a Country-Wide policy to me

and here are the 2008 Models affected in pdf form

GM dones't make a direct injection turbo 6 though. In due time I'm sure they might. A turbo 4 would be cheaper, dones't seem right though I'll agree, but those few here might know of the SVO 84-85 mustang, and thsoe few of us that have seen one modded that a 4 in a stang worked pretty damn well, so GM might as well give it a whirl.
