I'm not really an LT1 guy, only mimimal work under the hood of an LT1 for me. But almost all headers will provide a similar gain in power. Check into pacesetter and see what you can find for your LT1, just make sure you get "coated" headers. and as far as a catback, borla sounds killer on an LT1, but it is expensive........If you don't mind loud (VERY) go w/ the SLP loudmouth, cheap and effective.

Pretty much identical to what NCz28 said, i'd go with Pacesetter headers, longtubes may rub with sportline springs though, they are pretty low. And go with the SLP Loudmouth, I love the sound of that exhaust. And if you want an even meaner sound, get an electric cutout

QTP makes good headers as well. (Debated the best for LS-1s actually.)
Depending on what you wanna do the biggest difference in power is the size of the primaries. Big ones will help if you stroke your engine so it flows on the exhaust side well enough. Same way goes with Forced induction, where a 1.5"+ primary might be a good idea. If your just gonna stick to the stock displacement, then get smaller primaries and enjoy the added total power under the curve. Larger primaries on a stock displacement car will hurt your bottom end a little but add to the top.

I love Borla but it is so over priced... the SLP loudmouth or Magnaflow are nice as well.

Removing the cats will give you a 50/50 chance on throwing codes. And if you do start throwing codes, you can just throw in a wideband o2 simulator.
And about the y-pipe, im not exactly sure to be honest. I was not aware there was a difference between the 94 and the 96 exhaust wise.

Yeah, I think that the 1995's had or at least half of them did. a single cat set-up on the drivers side only and then in 1996 they all had a duel cat set-up. So, I beleive the pipes would be different fot the cats.

Just have an exhaust shop set you up with custom Y. They'll do it, but you'll have to be creative in the way you explain to them why you don't want cats on it. Best bet is an old license plate that's expired and tell them it's a race car now and you just need a basic exhaust.
