Default Gas smell in oil

I just bought a 1995 Trans am M6.
I was checking the dip stick and took a sniff.
It smelled like gasoline.

Is this bad?...I know it can't be good but are we talking replace...rebuild engine bad?

I was going to give it some new plugs and wires, air filter, and oil change because its running ruff but all and all it feels really strong....lights them up like a MoFo and is fast as hell.

The SES light came on the other night while on the highway but went off after a minute or so...first time for that and I was going up hill kinda under load.

Any suggestions.
Don't know much about the car or passes owner.
As far as I can tell it looks stock for maybe the air silencer tube been taken off and plugged up with a towl...a bought a 1le elbow to fix that..haven't put it on yet.
