It all depends on what you want to do with and what you want out of your car. And what engine/tranny set up you have. If you have a v8/auto or V6/auto, I'd go with 3:73 gears pretty much for driveability and it's an all around good gear ratio IMO. If you have a 350 V8 with a T56 I'd go with 4:11 gears, So I guess to best answer your question, Whats your Engine/Tranny set up and what year and kind of fbody do you have? Oh and I'd go to the salvage yards, Ebay and Craigslist and find a good rearend myself.

Oh sorry for not putting my info. I just bought a 97 V8 with the 6 speed. I had 4.10's in my 99 Mustang GT and i loved them but i didnt know if anything would suit better because of it being the 6 speed. So these cars dont have very good rear ends. What would you suggest and how hard is it to put a new one in?

Nice buy, glad you bought a Camaro instead of a Stang'! I guess if it were my car, I'd put 4:11 gears in it, I think they would suit perfectly with the 6 speed/V8 combo. Hey but thats just one mans opinion. In my truck I have 3:73 gears in it and love them, I get a nice mix between good acceleration and a fair top end. But I have a 327 not a 350 also. But in your case I'd go for 4:11. And I've never changed a rear-end in a F-Body but have in my truck. It wasn't that hard. I dont think it would be in your 97 but IDK for shure.

Well since you have a manual I'd suggest 4.10s at the least. 4.56's aren't even unheard of. the 6th is super deep so you can go Balls out with the rear end and still cruise on the interstate fine.
F-Body Central - Late Model GM Performance Shop AS for upgrading your rear, if your a manual I suggest either a Built Ford 9" or a Dana60 With a bit more to the 60. The 12 bolt is fine for Autos. I bought a 12 Bolt myself cause I was getting a very good deal on it. but I know it's still kinda the weak link in my setup. Swapping out the rear will be fine if oyu have a shop like Moser or Strange Engineering weld all the hardware you need onto the axle tubes before hand. The swap won't be that cheap. But once you get it under there, it'll be BOMB PROOF!
