If you have an a4 you should always do a stall converter before or at the same time as a bigger cam. Trust me it will be a lot easier to tune the car and get it to idle properly.
As for the gears I have always had the best success with the genuine GM gears from AAM. There a litlle more expensive but worth it.

Here's a link to a couple stall converters

Thanks a bunch. Next question, is the HotCam's lift measured with 1.5 or 1.6 rockers becuse the kit comes with 1.6 rockers. The cc305 has .510 lift with almost the same duration as the HotCam, how well would the cc305 work with stock heads and then after I get a nice set toss on some 1.6RRs and leave the old cam in it? Just tryin to find that nice medium cam where they work alright with stock heads but yet also works good with a set of aftermarkets. I might just do gears and tune for now and do heads/cam all at once.

The hotcams lift is measured with 1.6 rockers. The cc503 and cc305 are measured with a 1.5 rocker. The cc503 with a 1.6 rocker is .547/.559 iirc. I ran this cam for a year without any problems. Run the comp 918 beehives with it. chas010 on newyorkfbody runs the 503 with mildly ported stock heads, A4 with a stall, and runs high 11's with a full weight car. I think his stall is around 3600-4000 i'm not positive though. The 503 still has decent bottom end so a big stall is not necessary, and you can even run stock stall for a while if you need to.

yea the 503 is a better cam down low like I said to him on AIM. Honestly going big with a cam is something I regret. If I had a 383 or bigger this cam would be perfect, but as it sets now its' almost like I have V-tak in my car.

Lately I've considered saving up for a 383 with 4 bolt mains and going from there. Maybe a cc306 and some nice heads.
