Default Need help with a cam and gear choice.

Got a 1995 Z28 A4, looking to stick a cam and a set of gears in it this winter. Lookin at either 3.73s or 4.10s. This is a daily driver but by the time I actually put these in It'll be a weekend car/toy. Also, its got stock heads for now (will do those late summer) and looking for a cam. Got looking and the CC305 looks to be a decent choice (220/230* duration .510" lift i believe). Open to any suggestions. Thanks

I agree w/Philly.

3.73's are nice because you really don't notice the gearing difference as much in normal driving like you would with 4.10's or even higher. It really all depends on how you're going to use the car, but I think 3.73's are the best.

If you swap this cam swap the springs as well, all the stock valve springs can handle is a set of 1.6 ratio rr's. but when you do a cam swap i would suggest doing a set of rr's and new lifters for sure. however the CC305 does pull good from 1500-5500 so that would be good. it all depends on what you want to do with the car if its a daily driver and your just looking for a good all around mild lift and duration cam that would be a good one. but like i said if you do that swap for sure get a new set of lifters. stock lifters+new cam= disaster for new cam.

Another cam to consider given your mods is the LT4 hotcam.

I would do gears and a converter at this time(most bang for buck) and maybe some sfc's..If you are doing heads at end of summer might as well do the whole top end over next winter...

Do you need a quote on Cam, springs, lifters and converter?

A quote on those would be awesome, I honestly have no idea what to look for in a converter and springs, never had to look into matching those on my own. I think I'll stick with 3.73s, I'm just afraid I'll do those and be disappointed and wish I went with 4.10s. I like the HotCam idea but that design has been around forever and I think that Comp had probably done a better job with their cams simply because they're not worried about them passing emissions.

SpecialK...I am blkIROC355 on AIM (or to anyone else who wants to IM me).

Hot Cam is old news. It works good but there are better DD choices out there. CC305 or CC503 are the best DD cams for stock heads. 3.73's with an auto and 4.10's for an M6 car.

I was just going to mention the CC503. Its a daily for now but hopefully in a few months it wont be and I'm not going to do cam/gears until I have another daily car, so daily-driveability isn't an issue but I don't want to have to fight my car when I do drive it occasionally. How high can I spin this (safely, not talking strip-only duty here), I was thikin 6300?

The 503 I understood was borderline too big for a DD. AS for the LT4 cam being obsolete I was also thinking of how aggressively it ramps up. I have an aggressive ramping on my T/A. Worst part of this is I have a feeling I will need to get the top end readjusted here in the next few thousand miles. I'm using a R type ramping if that clears anything up for you FBC guys.
