Default Rear end gearing? Highway RPMs?

I have had my 95 Formula for about 2 months now. The previous owner had a Jasper reman engine put in it, which now has about 12k miles.

I get really crappy gas milage. I estimate it is somewhere around 20-21 mpg average with about 90% of my driving done with the cruise control at 70 mph (on the highway, of course).

The car is a real brute gassing it from a standtill, but tends to run out of steam at higher speeds. Also, I am tach'ing around 2100 rpms at 70 mph. My mom used to have a 95 Trans Am that if I recall correctly, would tach a bit lower at that speed.

I suspect that perhaps someone has done a little gearing on the rear end before I got it, but I'm not certain. Opinions, please.

Thanks.

I really cant tell you if it has been regeared without knowing if its an manual or auto. An auto can just have a stall converter. If its an M6 then 2100 is pretty high. I'd agree with you that it has been regeared. If its an auto its harder to tell.

Sounds like it's geared just right. 2100rpm =70mph. Theoretically if your car had enough power to pull top gear to 6300rpm, you'd be going 210mph. Sounds like it's geared pretty high to me.
