Lately my 97 trans am has been sputtering a little when i go from cruising to accelerating. But now when i go from overdrive at 45 mph, and it drops to third, it sounds like a machine gun drive by and the whole car is sputtering and when i gun it in second, the car loses power and just bellows misfires out of my cutout. I just bought Hooker shorty headers and some racing spec spark plug wires. Not even 3 years ago when the problem just started, I replaced the water pump, distributor and went with new stock wires...The problem went away for about 2 years...now its worse than ever. A few guys Ive talked to that work at Autozone and other car places as well as F-body friends say that if I install the headers, i cant re route the new wire over them, and down to the distributor. They say it will be an easier install and will take the wires away from the heat of the exhaust. anyway, i was just wondering if this was a good idea and if this will solve me driveby shooting sounds as I accelerate.
