Default Shift improver?

I am about to buy a throttlebody airfoil from SLP.
They also have a "shift improver" device for $10.
Is this a decent upgrade?
From what I can tell the speed of the transmission upshifts can be changed via the PCM. [using LT1 edit for example]
I'm not planning to go too crazy on the engine, just bolt on stuff and maybe headers; but I would like to get the most out of it.
Therefore I'm not sure if I should get the software.
So, buy the box or wait and get the programming software?
