Default Stall Converter...good or bad?

So i really want to put my car on the strip and put some decent numbers down for a relatively stock engine. A friend from Autozone said that a lock up stall converter was the best bolt on i could buy to make some immediate power. But upon reading up on it, i heard that when just cruising, the transmission is not fully engaged which could be good and bad at the same time....it doesnt seem plausible and i was wondering if anyone had experience in these....if they are good, what kind should i get?

Thanks

A stall is the best bang for the buck on an auto car you can buy IMO. I have seen guys drop .5-.6 just w/ a stall alone. If the stall is tuned PROPERLY you should have no problems cruising the streets. Sometimes people don't do the proper supporting mods: if you have a stall you will also need a tranny cooler and a good shift kit is also reccomended along w/ a good stall tune. Personally I have helped put 3 stalls in and the best results have been w/ a Fuddle 3500 HD, it was the least $$$ and performs well. People will tell you that Vigilante, and Yank are better, but that is all personal input IMO.

300? Don't be a cheap ass. A 300 dollar converter is going to be junk especially a lock-up one. I'm assuming this is for a 4th gen?
