I'm not trying to discourage you at all, but I was thinking about getting a LT1 and dropping it in mine, but after researching it and pricing it out, it is much cheaper to just sell my camaro, and then buy a mid-mileage LT1 Camaro/Firebird.
I know its your first car, and might be close to you, but It's just much easier to go the other route if you are patient and wait for a decent deal to come around. Again, not trying to discourage you, just giving you a heads up it will be difficult.

Im curious to know what you priced it out as? My friend actually swapped a LT1 into his V6 and it didnt cost him all that much, and it wasnt that hard to do either.

i can get a whole lt1 drivetrain delivered to my doorstep for 2500 which is by far cheaper than buying a new car that will cost at least 6000

No offense to your friend at all. But I have a v6. I've done more research than you can imagine, and talked to everyone thats done it. If someone said it was 'easy' either they are very very skilled or very very lucky.
90% of the time its going to be done half-assed. If you swap a Lt1 in with tranny, your still going to have to replace the rear end.... pretty much everything on the car that makes it a car and not a rolling shell. Labor vs price is just not worth it. Save the time, hassle, and problems and just buy a v8.

I've seen plenty of stock LT1 Camaros for 4,000-5,000. Now taking what you spent on your V6 + 2500 for the Drivetrain (really cheap, let me know where if its not a deal from someone you know). That is right there around 4500-5000 most likely.
On top of that, I'm pretty sure I don't have all these parts laying around:

that stuff adds up QUICK

Re: 79 transam 455olds lots of bling and custom paint /94 firebird project
its not really that hard theres a guy that runs at lancaster with a 94 bird just like mine who put a carbed 355 into it ive talked to him several times and tooken pictures and seem pics of what he did to switch it its really not that hard at all i have pics of his swap saved. its mostly just labor and you have to know how to weld which i do and my cousin does. when i swap my motor it will all be done at his shop where he has every tool imagineable welders, lifts, paintbooth, air tools, huge compressers, diagnostics, hand tools, tuners, frame jigs, ect so im in good hands when it comes to this

Re: 79 transam 455olds lots of bling and custom paint /94 firebird project
I hope you're getting a new Rear end as well.
Remember, our cars were made to have V6's, not just the engine bay is different, they were made to have less power so things are more prone to breaking than the higher V8 F-Bodies.
A full Carbed one may be cheaper, but If you want the "purdy" curve on that dyno, I'd go fuel injection. All depends realy, do you want this to be quick, or FAST

Re: 79 transam 455olds lots of bling and custom paint /94 firebird project
I wont give a lengthy response to this, ill just say the basis of what I mean.
A motor swap into a new, near stock car, is dumb. End of story. Just sell it, and buy one with it in it already. Less work, less time, and near the same money, not to mention you have a car that normal people can tell you about and help you with.
