Yeah, high RPMs on any exhaust system on a V6 isn't going to sound tood good.

Only one thing you can do to prevent it- don't floor it. Plus look at it this way: with the way gas prices are climbing laying into the throttle from a stop isn't a good thing, and most V6 exhausts sound respectful (unless it's a crapmaster), so maybe the desire to not hear the rice twang will actually help by saving gas.

Read over my V6 FAQ thread sometime. Its got alot of stuff you may not know.
Heres an excerpt: Q: I put on an aftermarket exhaust system, but my car doesnt sound good under throttle, how can I make the sound deeper? A: Buy a v8. You can never get the sound of a v8 out of a v6. By spending alot of money and increasing your overall horsepower and compression you will get a deeper sound, but still nothing compared to the sound of a stock v8 with exhaust. The best way to make your v6 sound 'better' is to get a set of headers, do a cat delete or replace it with an aftermarket cat, and run the exhaust of your choice. |

Dont worry, thats what im here for! Ask any questions you like, you're not going to be judged for it here.
And yes, the more you increase the air in/out ratio the better the exhaust will sound. Now, this doesnt mean the biggest pipes make the best sound. You still need proper backpressure. Now, as per cam and head work, I guess im the guy to ask about that for the 3.8's. Im not sure what you classify as a mild cam (I have a master cam list in that V6 FAQ sticky), but I went with a CompCams GT2, which is the biggest street cam you can go with. There are lots of mild versions of it (GT1) but, it all depends on what powerband you want as per what cam you want. Especially if you plan on running some type of FI, you need to figure that out now, so you know what cam you should use. Expect to pay about 2k for heads though. So it starts getting generally expensive. The heads are one of the most important parts of the car, so its worth it. And even doing the work yourself, expect to pay 700+ for a cam install. |

I think i'm going to stay away from forced induction. I saw your list, by mild i mean i'm not going to be doing any fi or nothing crazy. I know i being really broad and not specific. I really want my most of my power to be on the lower end of the band. I want to be the quickest to 60, Im not really worried about 100+ speeds and power up there, more worried about low end grunt.
I know thats not really helping sort things out, but im hoping your getting a general idea of what I'm aiming for. I probably won't be doing a lot of this for a while, but i would just like to get some general knowledge in what i might buy for the future. Thanks, Sam What Im looking to do sometime this fall before I do any cam or head work is install some type of limited slip. Ill start a new thread for that though...... |

i was planning on buying the loudmouth exhaust but one thing just popped into my head, hows the interior noise? is the exhaust sound going to effect listening to music or talking to someone? i want a really load exhaust but should i just consider getting a loudmouth 2, since i want to here my music playin? who ever has a loudmouth on thier car post up.

I don't have loudmouth, but from everyone I talked to it really does effect the interior's sound levels. The best I could find was a video from a Formula (1st) and then on a LT1 (2nd), keep in mind there'd be a lot more rasp if it were on a V6.
