Default Fuel pump?

My firebird will need a new fuel pump soon. Has anyone done this job before, I have on an older Jeep Comanchee I restored but it was easier than the firebird sounds.

Expect the most part of a day replacing a the fuel pump if you're doing it yourself. I've done it many times and it still takes me about 4 hrs. Its a bitch.

Do you have to remove the exhaust and rear shocks to get the gas tank out?

The exhaust for sure. If you're good you dont have to remove anything else. But expect to.

Don't listen to that one friend who tells you "oh we can cut a hole in the sheet metal above the gas tank and take the pump out threw the top of the gas tank." He's a freaking idiot. Trust me.

x2

Doing that is a very... unsafe and unwise decision in my opinion. A sawz-all on metal, inches away from a huge tank of gasoline and fuel lines... not a smart idea.

Im Prolly Gonna Get Murdered For This One But I Cut A Whole In Mine Above The Tank With A Nibbler Had No Problem And Takes About 20 Minutes To Do And 20 Minute To Change The Pump Now And "did Not" Weaken My Frame Because If You Lift The Rear Carpet Youll See "ribbing" Done To The Trunk The Tank Sits Between Those 2 Bead Rolled Areas........

And It Doesn't look Rigged Either I Used A Nibbler, Die Grinder And Primed The Bare Metal Then Put Steel Rubber Molding Around The Cut Part So You Dont Cut Yourself And Mad My Own Metal Trap Door Like On The Suburus You Can Get To By Opening A Flap In The Trunk Same Concept...

Call Me An Idiot But It Was The Best Thing I Ever Did To That Beside My Performance Mods.....
