Default How much will it cost?

Does anyone have a rough idea of how much I would expect to pay for a blown head gasket, and warped heads needing milled for a 1999 3.8l V6? I've been calling around trying to get quotes and am trying to find out what target price I should be looking at. Thanks guys!

head gaskets= about 50-75 bukcs
labor, lol=$600-$1000, easy. That is a full days work without a doubt.
milling= around $75-$100 per head, possibly less (been a while since I had it done)

check the labor rates at the local shops. i know the average rate around here is $70 per hour for a reputable place.

It's an easy 6-8 hours to get the heads off. Plus another 6-8 to put them back on. Throw in the milling plus parts and you could be at $1500 just about anywhere. That shop that quoted you $2200 was high but not unrealistic.

I agree. I'd charge you 2k if I didnt know you. There is too much turnaround with rebuilds, you need a little safety net.

Thanks guys, I did find a shop who will cut me a deal for $1100-$1200. They are a vette specialist shop in my area and were surprisingly willing to help me out. I wish I could just do it myself, but it seems like a lengthy process to tear down an engine with my limited time with work and all.

Hehe thats what I was thinking myself when I originally asked. I ended up getting a sweet deal from the guy. I only gave $650 for the firebird, and he will install my new tranny and do the heads for $840. I take the car to him later in Augast. Still collecting up my funds to get it done lol.
