Default my gears

so i have a 95 firebird 3.4L SFI automatic
(picked her up at a police auction)

its in immaculate condition, but the one thing that bothers me is how the gears are geared..
gotta put the pedal through the floor to get her going somewhere, and it revs up to 4,000 before it changes to second! WHAT THE HELL MAN!

ive been looking into racing gears, but i heard that once u hit a certain speed you go nowhere, since they are made for the 1/4 miles and what not..

so im stuck wondering what can i do?

I know in 3.4L's the shift from 1st to 2nd is a bit long, however there is no specific "racing gears".

There are tons of options you can take to get gears. There are ridiculously high gears that are made for 1/4 mile runs and nothing more than that. Putting anything like that in your car isn't going to make it fun, and you'll hate it more than what you've got now. 3.73's are IMO a good solution since its still good for daily driving but has some spunk to it as well.

also possibly 4.10s, thats what i was looking at. But also has anyone had experience with the "shift improver kits"? This also might help the lag your getting between 1st and 2nd, I was looking at tyhese kits, but have never heard any feedback about them.

4.10's are not useable as a daily driver. When you're on the highway with 4.10's you'll be turning 3500rpm. 3.73's is the highest i'd recommend anyone using your car as a DD.

If you want a real noticable change, get a new torque converter
