Ok, I don't know much about engines. Does the 3.1 from the 3rd generation lend itself well to being modified?

I think ForceFed at 60* Includsive has done some work with the 3.1, but I haven't heard of many people doing anything with them.

... Of course, that doesn't mean it can't be done.

Well the factory CATs on these cars are notorious power robbers, if you get it then I'd scrap the CAT asap. I read that upgrading that engine to iron heads, upgrading the horrible intake, and doing some exhaust work will have that car at or in the 200s. I belileve stock the engines pump out 145 hp.

if your gonna mod a 3.1 turn it into a 3.4 by getting a 3.4 crank... 2.8 3.1 and 3.4 are exactly the same motor

2.8 into a 3.1 is just bored out,
3.1 to 3.4 is the 3.1 with more stroke...
2.8 into 3.4 is bored and stroked but 3.4 can be bored .030 more turning the 3.4 into a 3.5l and yah there good performance v6s but they have a poor oiling system, but that the "V" at the crank being only 60 degrees rather than 90 degrees it also revvs fast and its better at top end......
