Default Shorter Shift knob shaft height - Automatic

Has anyone modified their gear selector shaft to be shorter? Is it possible to cut it down an inch or two and then put the knob back on?

If you have a lathe to cut new threads into it, sure. But usually, no.

It just looks IMO kinda stupid as tall as it is. It either needs to be shorter or have a leather boot to cover the shaft.

On mine, there are no threads at the top, but it is slotted and the inner plastic rod is smaller diameter at the top where it goes inside of the shift knob. I think it would be possible to cut a 1" piece of the metal shaft out and weld the slotted part back on then just cut and file down the plastic piece to the correct height and diameter... Should be good to go.

OR.... I could just have my daughter sew a leather shift boot!!
