Supercharger checklist...
Hey, does anyone know of a link that has what all is needed when you supercharge a 3800.
Not talking about the SC kit, just all the supporting modifications that are needed...
what I can think of...
Fuel Pump
Full Exhaust
Intake
Cam and Valvetrain?
P&P heads and TB?
Ignition Upgrade (prob not necessary)
PCM tune
My main thing is internals...is there a article saying exactly what engine internals you need to beef up? Or can you run w/ stock internals?
I ask this because I've been thinking about what I'm going to do...I'm going to get another 3800 (w/ low miles or rebuilt), supercharge it, and do an engine swap. My engine has 120K...dont want to put that much money into a high mileage engine.

Add injectors, lifters, springs, rods, and a performance crank to that list and your about set.
I'd recommend a new rear end also.

ah some more internals...just what I was afraid of...
I have LSD and 3.42's...so I'd need a different rear end?

If you have LSD, not a big deal really then.
At that point it would be more about how much psi your pushing on the SC and what your max tq is going to be. Because that rear end wont handle a ton.
And keep in mind, the t5 transmission is rated at a max of 220tq. I dont remember if your m5 or a4, but the 4l60e is barely any better regardless. So you may have transmission issues eventually also.
Now, all that being said, all the things im recommending are things to make the car run normally. Meaning, trying to avoid all future complications, and the max life of the motor. Not to mention peak performance for all modifications.
Put it this way, i've had this car cammed for about 6,000 miles now. And i've already turned two rod bearings. If I couldnt do this shit myself, I would have a large stack of bills right now.

I have an A4 now, but I plan on finding a M5 to go with the engine...
I was looking around and saw a couple turbo cars that used the stock crank...
But I can see what your saying about the engine life...
I will have all the time I need to build this engine up the right way, and I have lots of tools and a heated pole barn w/ full size car lift to my disposal...basically building my grand list of parts to start collecting after I find a engine.
Looks like I'll be dishing out the big bucks.
Exhaust $700
Intake $0
Ignition $180
Fuel $100
Cam/Valvetrain $700
Port and Polish $?
Crank $?
PCM $150
SC $3000
Engine/maybe Trans $2000
so I'm lookin at $8000+ plus whatever I can sell my stock stuff for...
hmmm...

If it hasnt been asked before...why not just swap to a V8? Much cheaper, much faster

Yeah, personally for 8 grand that is not really worth it. There is nothing wrong with V6's or even modding them a little, but if you're really thinking of putting 8,000 into it just throw a V8 of some kind into it.
I should be getting a LT1 as soon as I can find a donor car and it shouldn't be over 4 grand with the car and paying for the swap. Then with the other 4 grand you could get some nice goodies or just save a bit and you'd still be close the the same power output with that supercharger. it would also be a ton more reliable if done right.

I'm not gonna swap a V8...
I'd sell it and buy a V8 car, just so I don't end up having a cobbled, half-ghetto V8 car.
Still in the early thinking stage...haven't bought anything yet, I'd kind of like something more unique, IDK just personal preference i guess

I personally like having a v6 now. I used to hate it. But now I get so many second looks and astounded comments like "holy shit thats a v6?" that I love it.
Granted, im never going to be as fast as a v8 with some mods, I know this. I didnt build this car to beat anyone else, I built it to make myself happy. And if you love the car you have right now, keep it, mod it, and just have fun with it. Who cares if its slower than a v8, its different.
You should be able to get a nice billet crank for that for about 1k. And my heads were 2k, but you can get cheaper sets, or just P&P the stockers for about $750.
When I make all these lists, all im listing is the things im doing when I turbo it, if that tells you anything.
The biggest things i'd look out for, is getting the correct cam for the s/c, correct injectors, fuel pump, and to make sure and beef up that tranny. I feel rather sure the stock tranny wont last long with 300+ hp, especially with as many problems as they dish out with near stock numbers.

Thats it right there...
Ok...so what is different between the LS1's 4L60e and the 3.8 4L60e?
I thought they were the same tranny? With all this shit I'm prob. not going to be pushing more than 300hp to the wheels.
By beefing up the trans do you mean the internals? or would a shift kit, converter...maybe servo? be adequate...
