Still in the early thinking stage...haven't bought anything yet, I'd kind of like something more unique, IDK just personal preference i guess
I understand both sides of this, but how is it half-ghetto? Other than the badges not being there you really wont be able to tell the difference with my car when its done. The cars were meant to fit these engines and transmissions in them, so I doubt it's going to look "ghetto"

I know V6's can get fast and some people do really well with them (Phate is an obvious thought), but when a low miles LT1 F-Body is going for 7000+ and a LS1 going from like 12,000+ for anything that hasn't been beaten to death it just seems worth it to me to swap.

I had a 86 cutty w/ a 455 swapped into it (I didn't do the work)...but you could tell it wasn't done as if the car had that engine stock. IDK, maybe if it was done right it would have been different. I would rather swap a 3.8 to a 3.8, or just buy a V8 car...

It's your car and I'm not trying to argue at all or get you mad just saying.

But also, a 455 was never meant for a 86 Cutlass, these F-Bodies were meant to have the LT1's in them.

No man it's cool...

For you an engine swap might be the most logical thing to do, however I'm new to the whole car scene and am not as knowledgeable as you...

I think V6 to V8 would be to much custom work for me.

I pretty much rely on my own experiance and the internet for information...my dad doesn't really like my car hobbies

also, if the planned supercharger set up would put down ~270-300rwhp, why wouldn't a 4L60e tranny be ok?

LS1's used the same trans and they put down 300hp and they were underrated weren't they?

I don't see where the transmission should be a big issue right now. I'd think it would handle that no problem.

The way im putting all this, is what you would do to make the car a reliable one. Doing everything right the first time, not praying it doesnt break. In doing that I would beef up the tranny.

Now, you are correct in the fact that it may not give problems for a while, but I can just about assure you that eventually it will.

When I do something, I try and make it 100% right, so that you dont end up having to go back and spend more money fixing what you messed up before. I'll spend the extra money to get the slightly better oil, or part, or whatever it may be to make sure my car runs as good as possible.

If he wanted to, he could slap on a fuel pump, some injectors, and supercharge it all day long... until something gives. If you want to spend the extra money to do it all at one time, thats great; but none of us here are rich i'll bet, and we all want the most out of our money, and not spend it on unnessicary things, thats a given. But the way I look at it, you can spend the $8000 now, or spend it over time fixing things every time they break. This way you're starting with a near fresh motor, fresh internals... ok you get the point.

Just figure out what kind of budget you have, and spend it for the things you must have. And go from there, building the rest up over time. That is what im doing.

that makes lots of sense phate...

Well, looks like I'll keep my eyes out for an engine and some parts. Just saw a Powerdyne SC for $2000...to bad it isn't a year from now

And that is exactly why it might be better to let the rearend stay on for a while.

Sure eventually I'll swap the rear end out for a nice Dana or something, but I am not going to have over 400 horsepower anytime soon since I'm going to just relax for a while after I get the block in and all. The Rearend doesn't have anything directly to do with the engine and can be pulled any day of the week basically. If I were to do internal engine work, sure I'd do it before I get it installed the first time but I'm not going for that right now.

Ok...w/ this setup I'll be lookin at ~270ish rwhp

Seen other setups with less supporting mods that have put down 290ish hp.

Ok...where is a good place to find crate or nearly new 3800?
