You should have one purple wire that connects to one of the small terminals on the solenoid. This is the neutral safety switch.

There should be 3 or 4 larger red wires that connect to the large terminal on the solenoid. These are your fusible links.

Then you should have the positive battery cable and a wire from the alternator that also connect to the large terminal on the solenoid.

Thats all I have hooked up to my starter.

thanks... that helped alot.

yeah, i seen all those wires...

another question... is it bad that i already cut them? lol (i had a bad feeling before i did). can i splice them or should i just buy a new harness or does it even matter which goes where?

also, something I just thought of... since Im using the TH400 tranny i assume i need a retrofit crossmember or something? I was looking at one with a drive shaft safty loop. I was also wondering if i will need to use a different driveshaft?

You should be able to splice them back together. I cut all mine when I did my swap so I could make them shorter to reroute them. I have had no problems at all.

Yes you will need a different crossmember for the TH400. I know Spohn Performance sells them. One with the safety loop is a great idea. You will need a shorter driveshaft because the tailshaft of the 400 is longer. You can even get your driveshaft shortened if you need to. A couple other things to keep in mind. You need to be sure you have a place to mount the torque arm and I believe you will need a larger slip yoke on the front of the driveshaft to fit the TH400.

You can either get the B&M or Hurst kit to adapt the crossmember and torque arm or you can go with the Spohn torque arm setup. Spohn has a torque arm thats made to be used with a TH400 setup. The Hurst kit would probably be the cheapest route IMO unless your gonna be racing this car pretty hardcore than I would suggest going with the Spohn setup.

What they are talking about is the TH400 had either a long or short tail shaft. I believe the entire length of the tranny on the short shaft version is 28 3/8 inches long. You might see if a local shop could verify that for you or maybe even contact Spohn directly and ask them about it. I am not 100% sure of that measurement. But if you have the short tail version than that setup you are looking at would be perfect.

I noticed one red wire was larger than the rest but there are 3 or 4 that are the same gauge. Do all of these run to the solenoid? Do you have a wiring exact diagram, this is my first project and i am not exactly sure how to wire this car. I also have a 6AL box and Accel distributor. I could use advice on how to wire these together.

Also I am having a rough time with these old rusted motor mounts.... Would it be any easier if I removed the front wheels and remove the fender well pieces?

Yes all those red wires run to the large terminal on the solenoid. Those are the fusible links.

I cant be of much help with the 6al box because I personnally have never hooked one of them up. I am running the Accel 300+ ignition box myself. But if you go to Summits website or even MSD`s website they should have some install instructions you can look at. Or maybe someone else on here has experience with that ignition box and can chime in! !

Getting the motor mount bolts out is easier if you drop the lower a arm down and remove the front coil springs. Some people have bent wrenches to fit in the small holes in the frame but thats a PITA.

When dropping the coil spring do I need a spring compressor? Ive heard that could be a dangerous job lol.

Do you think it would hurt anything if i just cut the mounts to where i can pull the engine with a MAPP gas torch? I am using all new mounts and bolts for the new engine going in
