Engine Swaps, How Hard Are They?
Me and my father are in the market to purchase a third gen Firebird or Camaro to fix up as a project for the two of us to work on, and we want to do everything to the car ourselves. So my question is this: how hard is it to get an 8 cylinder engine out of a third gen?

I suppose that question depends on your tools and ability. There is plenty of room to work in that engine bay, so the removal itself is 'easy' as far as that goes

I agree if you have the proper tools, engine lift, engine stand and so on its a fairly simple thing to do. The hardest part is remembering where everything goes when you reinstall the engine.

especially if you have the L98, there is so much stuff under the hood, that it usually takes a few hours just to change the spark plugs...

Thanks guys, this really helped me a lot. I just mainly wanted to make sure that there's enough room in the engine bay to work on it. I orderd a new engine lift and stand last night, my old ones don't look to have much left on them.

there is plenty of room to put just about anything in there, at least as far as small blocks go. You can even get a few big blocks in there too.

I'm probably going to be getting a 350 Edelbrock crate engine, so that'll fit right?

There is no real reason any 350 shouldn't fit I don't think. I've seen quite a few things stuffed in third gens with no real hacking necessary.

Fit just fine but why an eldebrock crate and not s GMPP setup? GM's stuff uses lower compression and gets the same power from what I understand. That'll make the car more reliable.
