Default 2000 Camaro Question

I gave my son a 74 Camaro LT 350 4 speed (my sons 15, it's a running project car) and theres a kid that was in my youngest daughters class, they graduated this last spring may 07 this kid bought a 00 Camaro V8 6 speed with his graduation money. well it's a kid thing, but the kid with the 00 camaro is on my son to race ect. neither one of them know what they think they do. when it comes to performance or building a engine or a real performance car ect. my sons been around some tear apart and putting back together of a couple vehicles. last winter my son bought a cherry 87 4x4 Suburban with a bad engine (2 rods sticking out of the block) and he helped do the engine swap and he tore down the trashed engine after the swap. we bought a 3 month old GM 350 tbi crate engine. (long store, but the crate engine was ordered from the local GM dealer. the kids daddy bought it and had it put in. and then the tranny went out of this p/u right after they put the crate engine in it. daddy bought the kid a real late model 4x4 ex cab p/u and said sell that other p/u & engine, so we got it.)

my question is, does this 00 Camaro have a LT1 or a LS1 ? this 00 Camaro is factory original, what did these 00 Camaros run in stock form with a 1/2 a exhaust upgrade. the 74 is getting a vortec headed 350 in the close to 400HP range and a rebuilt BW T10 this winter. it has a fresh 10 bolt with a aburn posi and 373s & aftermarket axles. and it has some L60s tires on the back and hope to have some cal tracs soon. now it has some lakewood traction bars (slapper bars)

and when my sons ready I told him they could line em up at the local drag strip. the drag strip is about 45 or so miles from here. both the boys have a lot to learn. b4 there race ready. my son is way green and has the 4 speed down about 1/2 now. but it's experience and most any safe experience is good.
thanks

An 00 Camaro would have an LS1 engine in it and in stock form they put out about 305-320 hp.

Of course alot of it will depend on the skill level of the driver but in stock form it will probably run in the upper 13`s possible lower 14`s. Most times I have seen were mid to upper 13`s.

The LS1 with ANY mods should hit low 13's possibly high 12's with a good driver. Sounds like a good race you have brewing. Ditch the old school L60's and get some Drag radials.

there prob will be some drag radials by next summer. it's just got the ole Mickey Thompson L60s on it now. it does sound kind of interesting to see how it turns out. the dyno build sheets on the vortec headed 350 I have is 412HP to 425HP. yes driver error is a big deal in the end result of this. theres parts & pieces I still need and a few goodies too, but I have a dual friction center force clutch and a Lakewood scatter shield. I guess time will tell. so that 00 Camaro must hook up good to run them times with 320HP huh ? you guys have any other good 00 Camaro LS1 info that I might want to know ?

thanks

They say 320hp, but a bone-stock one will dyno 290ish at the wheels, a few mods and they are at 320-330 at the wheels.

I personally dont have a record of any 'stock' LS1 running better than a 13.2, but I could be mistaken. Your 350 will definately have him for tq and hp, but its mostly going to depend on the driver in this situation I believe, being as they are both new to it.

Yeah, they're LS1's and should be low 14's with even an inexperienced driver. And as Joelster said there have been some 12's on DR's and nothing else. They're impressive cars

Around 415 hp against a LS1 should be a pretty good race, not sure which I'd give the edge to, but the LS1 will probably be lighter, especially with the alum block. If your son can get it out of the hole well you'll be in good shape because stock F-Bodies aren't that good at hooking at the strip.
