Default 2000 Firebird To 2000 Trans Am Conversion

Hey, it's me again. This is my first 4th generation Firebird, so I have alot of questions. I have owened a 70-1/2 Trans Am, 73 Firebird, 75 Firdbird, a 78 Trans Am, 78 Formula, 80 Firdbird, an 82 Trans Am and then I got married into a mini van. 10 years later I just Got permission from the boss to buy a sports car, and of course, I purchased my 2000 Firebird 3.8 two weeks ago. It is pretty fast for a 6 cylinder and it's loaded, with T-Tops, except for traction control. How much differance is there besides the hood, engine, and is there a difference in suspension in this 2000 model?. Is this possible to make the conversion or should I purchase a Trans Am in the future? I would really like to make this a project Bird. I would appreciate the input. Thanks, Nich

I'm actually interested in this question too. For I have a 2001 and would like to convert it over.. I think i just want to put the 5.7l in there, and replace the hatch, for the Trans Am hatch.. other than that, i would keep it the same for me. I mostly just want that extra horsepower

But for me, i would think that it actually would be easier to purchase a Trans Am. Probably be cheaper in the long run.

engine swap, if you want a manual you need the 6 speed, replace the rear hatch, upgraded suspension, front bumper is different, dual exhaust, TA side skirts, and i believe they have a better brake system if i'm not mistaken (could be wrong), and I'm sure there's some more to it. if you've got the money, tools, time, and patience to swap all that then go for it. also if you wanted to make it a ws6 edition you'd need the ram air hood, and ws6 badges. personally i'd just save up, sell the v6, and spend the combined money on buying a TA, financialy you'd probably come out better too.

So can I drop in a 5.7 and replace the hood with no mods?

There are a lot of mods you'll need for the swap. Differnt motor moutns, ECU, transmission, driveline, rear end (though that's optional.) Suspension... fuel system. Ect ect.

In the end it's probably cheaper to buy a LS1 bird from the beginning. Unless your planning on really modding it out, and possibly rebuilding the motor, don't even bother with a v-6 bird, just buy a 8. That is, unless you can find a V8 that was in a wreck and your using the 6s body as a doner roller.
