Default Hard start

I've been having some problems starting my Camaro recently. I'l sit there cranking the engine for about 5 seconds, and the car won't start. I'll start cranking again immediatly afterwards, and it'll studder for a few turns then start right up. Now there's only three possible things that I could imagine this problem being. Either clogged fuel filter, weak fuel pump, or bad fuel pressure regulator. The only reason I'm doubting its the regulator is because when they go bad, it sucks gas through the vacuum line that it's connected to. Causing it to start normally, but die shortly afterwards. Anybody have any other ideas on what could cause this or what I should try first before dumping money into parts that may not fix the problem?

Filter first because it's the cheapest. Then check your pump and if it's the problem, well you might as well upgrade while your under there.

Heh forgot about that. GO to autozone or Orileys and borrow their scan too to find that out.

Filter is cake.
Try that out first.

And if that is the problem (even if it isn't) replace it every 30K or so.

It doesn't matter what the outside of the filter looks like. Go to your local auto parts store and buy a decent fuel pressure guage. You'll end up using that tool a lot more than you think down the road. With the key "on" the pressure should never be below 45lbs or so ( not sure exactly on an LS1). It should never fluctuate either once the car is running, it's a very useful tool for diagnostics.

I agree with getting the pressure gauge. I bought a small truck and it ended up getting only 14 MPG. It smelled like it was running rich at idle, so i tested the pressure and it was at around 70psi! I replaced the regulator and started getting 23 MPG.
So has your MPG dropped?

Idk...I've only had the car for about 2 months. It's been the same through that time...bad. lol.
