LS1 riding stock and needing help/baby coming.
I just bought a 99 formula and I'm fairly broke, plus I have a baby on the way so very soon i'll be absolutely broke. I'm trying to get my LS1 sounding stronger and performing better for under $2,000 for parts and labor. I don't race, I just play around with my Dad, who has a 73 Nova. He's old school and doesn't mess with newer models. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

To be honest saving for the child would be your best bet. But if you really would like to make it sound better try a new exhaust.
Get some Headers and an exhaust if you're worried about the sound. Possibly some QTP cutouts or something if you're seriously into performance, but that is up to you.

Lol, trust me, my wife has bought way too much baby stuff. We have two, three, or four of everything just in case. If it's twins she has still more than over shopped.
How much will headers and exhuast run w/ installation included...roughly?

get yourself a CAI and a slp loudmouth 1 exhaust system with the slp replacement y-pipe if you can't afford headers this would be the cheapest way to go and get the ls1 to open up and breath, i just installed the slp system on my ws6 and i absolutley love it,the sound is great very aggresive and mean

this is also an excellent choice
slowass what would a stall converter do to the car performance wise? i notice that from a stand still when i romp on the gas and lay it down as soon as i hit second gear in my ws6 it dogs out, would a stall coverter change that

^ a decently sized streetable stall ( 3500 ) will easily knock .4-.5 tenths of your 1/4 mile time. We have in our local group, a guy running a 2001 WS6, LT headers, true duels, lid, stall ( 3600 ), and 3.73 gears, and a tune.... and he went 12.0 @ 110 on street tires. wowza.

A stall helps from a dig and from a roll.
Keeps you in your powerband.
Gears would help the lag between shifts if it has a 2.73 gear.

That kinda stall is a bit high IMO, what's the stock stall on the 98+ models?
Going SLP menas big bones man, only thign I'd buy from them is the Loudmouth exhaust, their headers kinda like to kill your ground clearance. (Ask Slowass) Good parts honestly, but there are just as good parts available for less.
Another option is the TSP rumbler, it's cheap, and similar sounding to the loudmouth. Though both are VERY loud. A Corsa catback or a magnaflow are good touring exhausts. Noes that aren't' LOUD at a light. But have a nice bellow when you get on it.

if a baby is on the way its time to think about another new family members needs IMO. kids ARE NOT CHEAP, trust me. You have to take into consideration if there are any problems that pop up ( hopefully not for you ) Save your $$$ for the kids education.
