Nope, you can only go so far with the LS-1 till you bore it to it's max. (430 I believe sleeved) And with those added cubes, or cylinder wall, you can go much further. Add to it it's a iron block so it's inheriently stronger, and much less prone to warpage.

You could probably go faster with a 7K budget. But if your going balls to the wall then the LSX is probably your best bet for an engine. And honestly, after I max out/gernade my LS-1 I'll probably be getting that Shortblock.

Consider though how much an aftermarket block costs and that's not that bad.

Here's some prices I got online for BARE blocks.

http://www.sdpc2000.com/catalog/4448...awk-Blocks.htm

For Worlds 454 max cubes Warhawk block : 3,999.99-4,199.99

LS-6: 995.25

LQ-9: 695.13

C5-R: 6,395.00 (Has been proven to be DD 1000 HP capable.)

But, the biggest thing is with the LSX is that's a 500 cube SBC! That's nuts! And considering there's gonna be some company that'll make some kind of bigrer bore/stroke kit for them, we might see a 600 cube "SB" In the near future.

Now jsut imagine spinning two Holeset 70mm turbos and going positive at 2000RPM, and the thing spins to like 6 grand at least.
