Default just bought my first muscle car and need help

I'll be frank with ya'll. I dont know a damn thing about these cars, but i do know that I always wanted one. I just bought 67 firebird with the 400 motor (from what i know). The reason why I'm skeptical is because I bought it from an auction from philly. In the pictures it has the 400 sticker on the hood on and the tachometer. I don't even wanna sound like I know what I'm talking about because I don't. I'm asking help from the experts. I just want to know by looking at the pics if this is an original 400 and if I cant tell from the body how can I verify if it is. I went to the pontiac dealserhip and they were no help. So he are the pics. I would appreciate the help. Thanks

Munir.

Well in 1967 the engines that Pontiac put in the Firebirds were the following:

230 V6
326 V8
400 V8

Now, there isn't a clear picture of the entire engine so if I were you I'd ask for one. But I'd like to think that someone wouldn't put fake 400 badges on the car.

Also, I could be wrong on this, but I believe the code in the VIN for a 400 would be 226 based on this site: 1st gen Birds

Also you could ask them for the Engine Serial number. Its located on the drivers side right above the were the bell housing is. but anyways you can look it upand find what kind of motor it is with that number. Or you can post it on here and i will decipher it for ya.

If the body is as clean as it looks from the pictures, you got yourself one hell of a deal.

vin# might tell you what ORIGINALLY came in the car but that car could be on it's 10th motor by now. Irregardless, it has a V-8 in it, and that is a big plus.

According to several websites Vin # that has a 6 in the 8th digit is a v6 and a vin # that has a 1 in the 8th digit is a v8. So it looks like my car turned out to be a v6 body.

Well then from that information I can tell you that the hood is not stock, because that was the hood for the 400 motors. It would have had some sort of spoiler on the rear if it is a V-8 car if I am not mistaken. The good news is that you can pretty much do whatever you want to the car and you aren't going to hurt the value one bit. If the car was originally a 400 car then it MAY have some extra value if you were to keep it as original as possible. Seeing as how it was once a V-6 car, having a V-8 is actually boosting it's value a bit. Drive it and enjoy it.
