Default E-brake inop

This past sunday I picked up a 94 Z28 6 speed with a 383 and a bunch of other goodies. The ebrake is not working though. I pulled the console to see what was going on and couldnt tell much. The ebrake handle wont pull up at all. If I manually flip up the little lever on the side of the lever that locks against the large gear(good description huh), the lever will pull all the way up but doesnt set the ebrake. Im thinking its either the ebrake lever assembly inside the car, a bound/froze cable, or it needs adjusting. Has anyone else had this problems with their car?

It could be quite a few things. Any idea of what type of rear end it has? Aftermarket or stock?

If it has a line lock system in it, chances are he disengaged the e-brake. Otherwise, a bound cable, or improper adjustment on the cable are possible.

Its a stock 7.5" 10 bolt with 4.10's, aftermarket diff, upgraded axles. I dont have a lift to get under it to check it out, and the car is lowered so I cant just lay down and look under it. I need to put it on the lift at work one day and change the oil and Ill look at it then. Hope its something simple.

It doesnt sound like its anything serious. What you described with the lever and gear and whatnot just means you were taking the moving parts away from the ebrake handle and making it just move instead of moving the cable. Its probally the same as I said before, a stuck line or improperly adjusted. Let me know when you get under it to take a look.

Well I guess I pulled on the lever hard enough and unfroze whatever was locked up. Now it works like it should!
