Default Hi...First post. White smoke?

Hi
I have been looking into a 1987 Camaro sport V6. I was told that it is producing white smoke and that it had been overfilled with oil. Are the two related, and if so, is this a small or potentially disastrous problem (for someone who can work around engines but not inside em) please?
I always thought that white was actually steam, not smoke, and burning oil was blue?
Thanks
Phil

White smoke is typically a blown head gasket...

But it can also be condensation stored in the exhaust burning off (if it smells like smoke, its smoke though).

The only way it would 'smoke' like that if overfilled with oil, is if you spilled it onto the motor and it was burning it off... and that would be coming from the engine bay, so no.

Stay far far away from blown head gaskets.

LOL, yes I did try a head gasket in my younger days, and I have no intention to try again. The seller said the compression was low which says to me to let it go.
Thanks
Phil

do a leak down test and you have your compression answer.
