Default Mix Of Two Gens [Firebird Trans Am]

I put it in this thread because I'm putting a motor from one Generation, into another. So I couldn't put it specifically into one category.

I'm putting a V8 350 Pontiac motor off of a '71 Firebird, into an '84 Firebird Trans Am. The transmission I'm looking for is an AOD [Automatic Overdrive]. I haven't started any work, but I was wondering what kind of work would be needed to do this. What kind of AOD should I look for, and what kind of conversion would be needed. Any suggestions?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Well AOD, that's a rather broad term honestly. What do you want? Can it be electronic? What's your end goal HP wise, will this ever see the strip/track? What kind of tires will you be running?

Overall the "easiest" way to get the goodness of overdrive is to install a AOD box to a Turbo 350 or Turbo 400. That'll just mean grabbing your trans of choice, installing it, hooking up the box behind it, and then a custom driveshaft.

Gear Vendors under/overdrive transmissions the most awarded auxiliary transmissions.

Those guys make arguably the best setup available, for many different transmissions.

The cheap way to do it would be to grab yourself a 700R4 off of most any V8 3rd gen. If you wanted to get a bit more complicated, you could see if you could find a 4L80E and drop it in there. It's the 4-speed automatic version of the TH-400.
