Hey guys im sure about three hundred people have asked thease questions but here goes nothing. I have a 97 formula with the LT-1 and i want to know from you guys if a guy can cut out the cats without having a bunch of errors pop up on the Dash also i was windering who makes the best performance chip for this vintage of car. My car has a big cam in it not sure what the specs are, shorty SLP headers which i want to get rid of and put on long tubes and an aftermarket y pipe, let me know what you guys have to say.

Stay away from performance chips until you have made all of the performance mods you want. From what I understand the chips adjust to how much HP you're running when you install them and if you add more it causes the car to start acting up.

Chips for domestic cars are a bad idea in general. Especially since its cammed, you'll want it Dyno-tuned. All a chip does is lean out the fuel mixture, and most chips are made for stock specs, meaning a modded car would kill itself.
As per taking off the cats and not throwing a code, you have a 50/50 chance of not throwing one, even if you do, all you have to do is purchase an 02 simulator and put them in place of your o2 sensors. (about $30 each). |

Welp my input is not needed here. Since Phil and Phate said everything there is to be said about programmers.

Chip? There is no chip in your car, it's a '97 with an OBDII computer. Go get a dyno tune after you do your long tubes and y-pipe. A competent tuner will be able to get it running really good, and disable any ses lights that may come on.

Chips/Tuner, same thing in the grand scheme of things, it's a new tune in the form of silicon Joelster.
