Default Stupid Question Probably

I'm searching for a cheap set of new wheels for my Firebird, and found a set that I like for under $300. I found a set but under the specs it said offset -11mm. Here it goes... what does offset mean?

offset is the distance from the center of the wheel to where the wheel contacts the hub.

3rd gens have a 0 offset in the front and a -16mm offset in the rear
4th gens.. I think the offset is like 50mm for the 17" and 55mm for the 16", not sure if it's + or -

You have to be very careful when buying wheels as per what offset you get. As dragon said, it determines how far the wheel is going to sit in or out of the wheel basin.

Make sure to post here the specs of the wheel your getting before you get them though, so we can be sure they work.

Thanks guys, I'll be sure to post the specs of the wheel before I buy them to make sure they'll fit. I really appreciate the help.

EDIT: I decided against getting new rims since I think I found a set of centercaps that I really like and ordered them just now. I'll post pics once I get them and install 'em.
