Check the rear blinker bulb if the front is lighting up.
I know on my 95's tails there are 3 bulbs, and it is the middle one however the 97-02 taillights are different and not sure what the exact placement is but its easy to pop off if you open the hatch. Just look to see if it looks to be broken in the filament, could be your problem.

I'd still check that bulb in the tail light to be sure. I just went through this problem with my 95. The new blinker bulb should only be like 3 bucks at the most. There are 2 filaments that could be bad, the smaller of which could be your problem.

I'm not too familiar with newer engines (newest thing I've worked on was a 84 GMC), but did you check the fuse box? I know that my lights all run on one circut and if a fuse is bad that could be doing it right?

that was the first things i did was check bulbs and fuses, what was weird was when I got the car all the bulbs lit up but would not blink,i found a blown bulb in the front left, replaced it and the left blinker started to work,so i switched the right out but it still just turns on without blinking.is there some kind of blinker relay or something i am overlooking,?
