Exactly.

CanadianDriver: Miata.net Tire Calculator and Comparator

This link is to a tool that will help you tremendously on finding a tire combo that will work for you and is the same diameter as your stockers. AS well as tell you how far off the combo will make you.

No, you just need to get some tires, any size you choose, get new gears, and get the car dyno tuned and have the tuner re-calibrate for gears and tire size. You will have NO PROBLEMS running a nitto 315 on a stock WS6 rim, they will fit w/ minimal fender well hammering. The look and the grip are worth it 10 times over. I have run my nitto 555r's for 12,800 miles and no problems so far.

If I had to choose tires, I've seen nothing better (performance wise) than a M/T (Mickey Thompson) tire. They wear a bit faster than the Nittos, but that is because they've got a softer compound and hook up much better.

I've only used the Indy Pro, Indy Pro S/S', but I'm sure they're new-age look ones do just as well as the drag-style tires.

I have had a 1.8 60' w/ nitto 555r's and have got 12,800 miles out of them. and for $145 per tire, that is an unbeatable deal for stickiness and longgevity IMO.

I'm not saying they're bad tires for the price, but If I was looking at performance alone, I'd go M/T in a heartbeat.

True, but from what I'm gathering these are goign to be an every day tire. MTs are something I only have on my car when the track is in it's immediate future.
