Hi everybody, I dont own a camaro yet, but i have been searching all over to find one I like. I recently crashed my car (2000 Eclipse) into a pole and totaled it and i figured I would step up to a car that is actually powerful, not a rice rocket, so I need your guys on the forums help. I am set on getting a 4th gen, but I know there is a split where some came with LS1s and some with LT1s. I am wondering what would be a better engine to look for in the car. Style doesnt matter to me to much (the difference in headlights etc.) I think they are all awesome looking cars. Also wondering what the general price range is. Im looking in the vicinity of under $9k. And not sure what is considered "high mileage" for these cars, but the car would most likely be a weekend car. I also probably wont be doing anything to the inside of the motor but more just bolts on like intake headers exhaust etc.
Thanks everyone and sorry about the huge ass post. |

First off, welcome to FBO.
As for the car, it really depends on what you'd like. LS1's are more popular among most people, but they also cost quite a bit more. If you're looking for bang for the buck currently an LT1 is what you're after, and you can go from 93-97 with those. If you are patient you can find a nice LT1 for under 6k most likely.

Welcome to FBO!
![]() As Andy mentioned, the LT1 is going to be your best bang for the buck right now although I've recently heard that some parts are starting to go up in price. The LS1 cars are popular and get decent gas mileage even after doing the upgrades. If you're going to go with a LT1 I would go with a 96-97 since that is when they switch to the OBD-II computers. They're easier to reprogram than the OBD-I computers found in the 93-95 cars. As for the swap to an electric water pump on the car...if it fails and leaks it won't matter if it is a standard pulley driven water pump or an electric one, it's going to leak. That is probably the worst part of owning a LT series motor, but when they run...they run good. Good luck in your search.

Thanks strc09 for the reply. But when i meant leak, i meant when the pump fails and it leaks from the weep hole on the water pump unless it doesnt have a weep hole, i thought all water pumps did. Maybe im mistaken, haha I am a newb with 4th gens so thats most likely it.
