New to this whole forum thing....and new to the firebird world
..lol...bought two firebirds this past week a 95 and a 94..havent decided if I am gonna make one outta the two or get them both running and just have fun...the 94 is having a fireing problem and I am having a heck of a time figuring out how to get the coil pack off...and yesss I am a female ..and YES I like to tinker with cars..my hubby thinks I am nuts ..but he has his toys and I have MINE.. HE?SHE who has the most cars when they die wins right..lol..any suggestions on the removal???? it sat for 6 mo before i got her and she ran for a little while and back fired a whole lot!!!..I did a gas additive to remove the water/condinsation...if you sprayed starter fluid at her she would start and run..now she is being stubborn and like most females doesnt wanna start up and run....so ii figured trying the working coil pack off the 95 that runs is a good place to start..i am open top any suggestions!

Welcome to the site! I haven't taken the coil packs off of my car so I can't help out, but I'm more than certain someone like Phate knows how to.

First, welcome to FBO! Glad to have you!
Second, the first thing i'd try on cars that have been sitting for a while is gas additive water remover(fuel injector cleaner isnt the same thing). You may have to completely empty the tank and refill it. In-tank gas doesnt have a very long life, maybe a year. As per removing a coil pack, it really depends on if you have a 3.4 or 3.8. Both are different setups on the coil packs, but are removed basically the same way. The easiest way to do a coil pack is to take a 8mm (if my memory serves me correctly, although it may be a 6 or 7) and remove the bolts on the back of the pack of coils and take the harness off of it, and then just take the corner bolts off of the mount that all of the coils are on, and take off the whole unit. That way you can test all of the coil packs anyway. The 3.4 is the same way, its just easier to get to. Oh, and watch for one bolt on the back of the whole set of coil packs on the 3.8 next to the motor hoisting handles (black metal handle on the right rear of the upper intake) you may have to take out. |
