Hi everyone, today i just purchased my first car and it happens to be a 1998 firbird with a 3.8 liter v6. Im only 18 years old so im pretty new to this whole car scene, ive always wanted an import but ive always had an inner love for domestics and here i am today with a firebird. I have big plans for this car but i just dont know what to do, right off the bat i know i want an exhaust and intake, the car is just tooo quite right now! If you guys could help me out with some reccomendations on what mods i should get that would be great. Thanks.

Welcome to FBO!
For your intake since you're a 95-97 V6 you you'll have a filter and cone type Cold Air Induction kit, these are made by many manufacturers from SLP to K&N and all provide the same performance, it just comes down to which brand you want. For exhaust your best sounding mod is going to be headers, however I like to start at the back and work my way towards the engine. I'd suggest a catback exhaust system, again there are many options, I just say stay away from Flowmaster since they have a history of rusting out. If you're looking for loud then the SLP Loudmouth I or Loudmouth II is what you'll want. If thats a smidge too loud though then I highly suggest the TSP Rumbler. Personally, I like a quieter idle and a smoother tone while accelerating which is why I went with the stock catback off a Camaro SS. You can then choose to add on a cutout on the I-pipe. Cutouts are incredibly loud and in most areas not street legal, but provide for better times at the dragstrip. Now onto the catalytic converter, you can either hack it off and put a straight pipe in it's place, or go with a high flow aftermarket one. From there we come to the headers and y-pipe. Right now there are 3 companies that make mid-tube headers for the 3.8l, RKSport, Pacesetter, and Clear Image Automotive. However, there is a new company thats making longtube headers called Force Fed Fabrications. These take 12 weeks to make and are made of stainless steel and will run you $700+ compared to $340ish for ceramic coated headers. Also you have to have the EGR tuned out on the longtubes, custom y-pipe will need to be made by an exhaust shop, and you have to run 93 octane. Intake and exhaust should keep you happy for a while and from there you can decide what you want to build the car for- dragstrip, autocross, street machine, etc.
