Looking for a cheap way to make the hood look better on the firebird until i can get the car painted, if i can't find something that matches the color on the car it will end up just primer though, any suggestions? I don't know the color code of the paint but here is a pic

Honestly, just leave it the way it is until the $$ for paint comes though. If you use a spray paint, it will look like ass and be one extra thing that they have to sand off before painting. If you primer it and leave it that way for a while and your painter does not sand off that primer completely and goes over it w/ paint thinking that it is primered well enough already, your paint will look like shit. ANY hands or anything oily from the enviroment that touches the primer surface will be there for good, the primer soaks in the natural oils from your skin off your hands and when paint is applied over that, even if you cannot see the hand prints, it will show through as dull spots once the paint is applied. Thus, primering should be done as a step right before the paint is applied.

Yeah man, just leave it alone for now until you get the funds for a complete paint job.

#1 Do not use maaco. There supposed cheap but good panitjobs are not even close to good. What they do is scuff and paint. They don't do nearly enough prep or finshing to their paintjobs. Like bumpers for "$89.00" they look ok for about a week then it starts to show how poorly it was done.
And you're right also 1ncz28 any oil from hands ect that get into the primer, if it is not sanded down, will show through as dull spots. Also if you use silicone products on your car (wd-40, aromor all) It will cause the paint to not stick. I don't even allow silicone products in my shop just for that reason. And I think that massey furguson red or IH red matches pretty close to the red on your formula. You can pick the stuff up at your local farm supply store like runnings or somthing like that for 25 buck for a gallon + your hardner and thinner. I used it on a geo I had turned out really good and held up. An alternative if you want a cheap way for your hood to match your car.

man i will never use maaco, I have someone to paint it for me. Just dont want to spend extra money on something i dont need until i find me a job. I have been thinking though, i will just leave the hood alone and deal with it until i get the car painted

LMAO Massey Furgison red? Dude that stuff honestly once it gets sun faded gets toe be almsot a safety red.
It'd probably work though. Farm implement paint is tough as nails. Just don't expect much in the way of a real good shine. I'll look good from about 20' but any closer and people will notice it'd kinda wavy.
