Default Opinions on Window Tint

What are your guys opinions on Window Tint.

My camaro is black, and I think it would look pretty good with some nice tint around the sides.

What are the laws (NY) for tint, and does anyone have any pictures of the highest legal tint on the side windows for NY. Also, how much does it hinder your sight at night?

I think that in NY state you can go as dark as you want on your rear window, but on your side windows you are limited to a 70% tint, which means it lets about 70% of light into the vehicle. It's really pointless to get that low of tint on your car, during the day it dosnt even look like your windows are tinted. I went with 35% on my sides and 20% on my rear and I really think that I gave the car a new look.

If you can go 35% here is an idea of how it looks. I have 35% on my door windows.

I like tint on the more modern car but something about tint on a pre 74 car tends to be somewhat taboo with me. I know sounds stupid but I guess its just one of those quirks from growing up around these cars when tints weren't around yet.

I think the legal tint is 80% allowable light in and that would be 20% tint by name I thought, and thats on all windows as now its considered a obstruction of view, sought of like a spoiler thats too high. But becareful as now the last I read was that the NYC Police department will be supplying all thier cars now with the gun that measures the tint resistance making it impossible to beat the ticket. So if NYC is doing it, then I am sure surrounding counties will too. Its probably a matter of seeing if the move proves feasible for NYPD first.

this thread is old but...yea

In mich you can get a prescription to have tint on all windows (illegal for drivers)...I wear contacts and glasses so I'm going to go to the doc's and complain enough to get him to write me one ...hopefully

tint on Black car = FTW...I'm gettin mine tinted eventually...

I personally like 15%-20% all the way around (matching is key imo)...5% is too dark at night I've heard and the 15-20 will also match T-Tops if your picky like me

35% on the sides 30% on the back here. Just go to a tint shop and have them hold a sheet for you so you can decide. It's like buying speakers for your car, you should listen to a set before you buy them.

I'm blacked out on everything but, i think i'm going to change my tint on the formula to something a little lighter. Definatly keep it even all the way around.
