Default Girl loses feet on a Six Flags ride

http://www.wlky.com/news/13547817/detail.html

Does this raise any Red Flags to anyone else

Inspectors from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture arrived Thursday night to begin determining what happened. They said they're checking the cable in question but would not speculate on what caused the incident.
Why the HELL is the Dept. of Agriculture the ones called on during this. People wonder why those areas have such a bad representation in the rest of the Country. Maybe if they had real inspectors they wouldn't have this problem. Hope the girl does okay and isn't in too much pain, what a freak accident

I hope she recovers, but like you said, why the hell is the dept. of ag doing the investigation? Tank of gas says they find a pissed off rooster the cause of it.

I can't find out if the Department of Agriculture is responsible for ride inspections in New York. I did find, however, that for many states across the country amusment park ride inspections falls into the responsibility of the Department of Agriculture. Not just in the south, either, so don't pull that crap.

I was kidding about the south, I always rip on a few friends who live there, but it's kidding around, relax :P

I'm pretty sure NY has the Department of Buildings Inspectors do it though.

But Explain to me why the department of Agriculture should be doing this in any state at all. I'm sure in most states the park inspectors are trained extensively, but why would they be a part of the Agriculture Dept? Seems like a weird area to throw Engineers that inspect theme parks IMO

Disclaimer: This all just my wild ass guess and I have done no research into the matter.

County fair's fall under the jurisdiction of the Department of Agricluture. They've been around longer than amusment parks have. As amusment rides started becoming a regular part of those events, their inspection and what-not became the responsibility of the Department of Agriculture. Fast forward to when amusment parks start popping up. Since the Department of Agriculture already had ride inspectors, the inspection of the fixed amusment rides became their responsibility as well.

Okay, I'm relaxed. I was just feeling hyper-sensitive to south bashing at that moment, I guess.

Lol Markuz got it right though, at least for Kansas.

That and who else inspects cables as often as the Dept of Ag? besides the electrical companies?
