While I was in Japan I missed out on a couple of shows that I would have liked to have attended, but duty first is what they say. Man, I can not wait until the day when I can say screw duty first and due my own damn thing when I want. It's getting closer...just not there yet.
On to the story...
One of the relaxing things that I enjoy is going to car shows and entering my car. My car isn't in pristine condition and used to be daily driven before the incident last year that caused it to be down for the better part of a year. So, eventhough it's not in pristine condition it does have it's perks. One - it's pretty clean for being a 1988 model car. Twenty years old and it can still turns some heads...I'll get to that in few minutes. Two - it's had some major work done to it. Thanks to the folks at
Zeus Performance in Charlotte, the car runs better than it did before and it much more powerful. Under the hood...also pretty pristine. Three - I put a lot of time and effort into maintaining and improving the appearance of my car. I have also added a lot of little things that add value/points to it at car shows...things to draw attention and get it looked at thanks to a friend of mine who is also part of the club.
What's really cool is that the wife and I have somewhat similar/matching cars:
With all of that said...we all met for the cruise into the show. That's what we do. We make an entrance instead of showing up one at a time. It also helps when we all want to park together which also adds to the overall appearance of the group. We started out as four cars heading into the show. I know...it's nothing to really be proud of, but it's better than two. We were joined by a new member than my friend recruited in SC at another show. Now we were five. On top of that, we recruited two more members to our ranks. A very nice looking GenI Camaro SS and an equally impressive GenIII Camaro Z28.
We had a great time hanging out with friends and enjoying the rides that were also on display at the show. I love car shows because you see some of the coolest cars ever built. You'll also run across some exceptionally rare ones, both old and new, as well. What made this time special and a milestone for the club...every single one of us including the two that we recruited took home an award. Stick that in your tailpipes Mudstain owners!

That made a total of seven awards. Two of them were "Best of" awards. The first one was picked up by our new member, Vince, with his immaculate 1979 Camaro Z28 who won "Best of Show - GM". The second best of went to yours truly. I took home my first "Best of" catagory trophy for "Best of GM - 1987 and Newer" which was really awesome because I beat out many newer cars.
Niki scored her second trophy, a Top 30:
It was an extremely awesome day. The weather held out for us which is always a good thing. I got a little redder even with two coats of sunscreen. Oh well...working on that base.

The clouds did start rolling in though towards the end of the show and the nasty rain held off long enough for Niki and I to take another photo together when we got home of our two award winning rides.

I hope to continue the trend of winning awards. This one though was a complete shock because I generally only hope to score in the top whatever trophy catagory. When I didn't get my name called I began to worry because that would have meant that I would have been beat out of a Top 30 award by a PT Cruiser and Miata.

To take a "Best of" catagory was really special. It shows that I'm doing something right. One day, I'll win a "Best of Show" trophy. So far, I've met my goals...I got a club participation award for the car club I founded, Fayetteville F-Body, and I've taken home a "Best of" trophy. Now to work on that big dog award.

Eventhough I'm esstatic that I scored big this go 'round, I'm more stoked that everyone in the club walked away with an award. That is the coolest thing of all. I would love for that to happen again.
Sorry for the long post.
