Bias are not disapproved for Streetuse.

WARNING: Mickey Thompson Indy Profile S/S tires are Bias Ply. It is not recommended that radial and non-radial tires be mixed on the same vehicle.

Re: Drag Racing "Quick Tips"
I know they are not disapproved, but I just find it odd that they would make it bias ply instead of SBR.

Because they've been using bias ply tires for decades for racing, and they just so happen to be better at creating straight line traction.
And radials are no more less or more safe for driving a car down the road. YOu see hundreds of not thoussands of resto cars running bias ply tires because it had them back in the day.
Also bias ply tires can withstand more weight, which is why they are so popular in agriculture applications.

Eh. Im not quite sure thats why they use them. My understanding was that they use bias ply tires because of the flex they can get in the sidewall on a launch, making them easier to plant. But idk really, im going on heresay on this one.

Re: Drag Racing "Quick Tips"
That's 90% of it Phate.
The other 10 is that the NHRA doens't allow such high tech tomfoolery such as carbon fiber and titanium, or those evil turbochargers... or god forbid Fuel injection

Time for a bump:
Anyone head out to the track yet this year, if so any improvements?

Bias tires wrinkle better and can be made lighter than a radial. 2 top reasons for drag use. I put a set of radials on my front Bogarts for better street handling. They easily weigh 3 times more than the ET Fronts I had on. Both my BFG and M/T 17in drag radials weigh much more than my Hoosier 15's and the Hoosier is alot more tire.
Another good tip is to keep the right side rear pressure around 2 pounds higher than the left.

Heading down to the track for the first time this season on May 9th.
Looking for a decent night and maybe an 11.80 at 119.
Freaking altitude....be blessed if the DA is under 7000.

What would this do for you?
----------
Bias vs Radial (speaking from my knowledge in the offroad world. Not sure if the same applies to racing tires). Bias is generally stronger than radial. Therefore, I'd guess they can be made thinner for racing applications and be lighter. In addition, they flex way more than a radial tire. The negatives to the bias tires I've run in the past are flat spotting overnight and tire life. Other than those 2 areas, I'd consider them superior in every aspect (traction, flex, strength).

Yea I forgot about the flat spotting overnight... nothing worse than having to move a 20 ton tractor with 8 tires that are about 4'' shorter on a 2' patch.
