track times
Well i finally got the ol' V6 out to the track the other day. Lets just say it didnt turn out to good. First run i had my exaust cut out open. Ran a 15.1 (.1 better than my PB before i touched the motor). So i figured i would give it a shot with the cut out closed, being that the car did feel really weak on the bottm end especially with it open. Only managed a best of a 14.8.
My motor had always had a crappy little ticking sound comming from it since we had built it. The ticking got pretty bad that night, so i gave up and went home. Well we decided to tear the motor down and see if we could figure something out. We decided to go ahead replace my lifters since they had 130K miles on them, and taking more abuse from the new cam. My dad decided to mess around with the rockers, and tightend them down kinda slow, and we watched as they pushed the valve down with them (push rods are to long). So we ordered new shorter push rods while i was at it.
After we got the new parts, we decided to do another check over, found that one of the valve springs/valves was moving about 1/2 inch+ in any direction. So we tore the head off, and took off the spring, to find out that the valve guide had pretty much decintagrated, so the valve was basically just kinda bouncing around inside the head. So needless to say its back in the shop getting fixed at the moment.
So we thought a 14.8 with none of the other 5 cylinders running right, 1 dead cylinder, an screwed up oxygen sensor due to the oil all over it causing it to mess up the fuel/air ratio's, and the horrible ticking more than likely causing my timing to back off a little bit, wasnt to bad LOL.
