Default 1993 Trans Am Purchase

Hi guys, I recently purchased a 1993 Trans Am with low mileage and have been checking out a lot of information on this website. Between the countless optispark threads and reliablity issues noted I am wondering just how reliable these cars are? I used to be really into third generation camaros and am pretty new to the LT1. Now, I am definatly not new to forums and realize a lot of people only post on here when they have problems.....that being said I am almost afraid to wash my car for fear of malfunction from water. LOL< any help or advice would be great thanks.

It isn't that sensitive. The world isn't going to end if you get a few drops of water on your optispark. Just don't open up your engine bay and start spraying water all over the optispark, and if you have to go through a deep puddle take it slow.

^^^ this. don't take it through an automated car wash, or else it might die halfway through, then you're screwed, and your beautiful finish is ruined.

I never take any car through an automatic wash. It is just asking for damage in my opinion. If I need a quick wash I'll just spray 'n wash it for $1.

I love the free bath!
I have to make sure I've got a spare rag/towel laying around so I can put it up against my windows and stop water from spraying everywhere!

I wish all I had was drips. My driver's side interior gets a pretty intense cleaning everytime I wash it lol. Can't hold a towel up to stop it because I refuse to go through the auto wash with my bird (had a freeze plug get blasted out of my engine last time I went through 4 years ago, no thanks). $5 in quarter wash then drive her home for hand wash. Only way I wash my car these days

My weather stripping used to leak enough to make my pant leg a bit damp, but I put Vasaline on the stripping, and it got a lot better. Now I only get three small drops near my side mirror when it rains heavily.

this^, I took my 94 Z through one and made it half way before the car died, its not fun pushing your car out of a carwash...
