Hello
I have a 97 TA. Its not a ram air but I bought a ram air hood for it, it looks like the 1998 ram air hood with 4 nostrils but is for a 97. I also bought a oem ram air box for it, well its for a 98 due to the hood I have. My question is what else do I need to make this work? The hood has the nostrils cut out but that is it, there is no cut out under the hood for the ram air box....any ideas or suggestions would be wonderful... Thanks, Amy |

I agree with nascarartist. I think that airbox was for 98-02 only. You might need one that looks something like this.
And are you sure the hood you got was a functional ram air hood and not just for show? |

It is a fiberglass hood, got it as a xmas gift. It is a Harwood. The hood is a show hood but I know a few guys that work in body shops and the one told me when he paints it he can cut the openings out for it to be functional that I would need to get the grilles for it and the baffling.
The reason for the 98 air box was because the hood is like the 98 and up hood style ram air....hope I didnt make a big mistake =( |

Judging by how far back the inlets are on the hood, they not line up with the airbox in such a way that would allow air to flow through it. So while you may have a made a mistake, you didn't make a big one. There are plenty of people looking for a stock airbox (like me... lol, too bad I'm broke), you could probably sell it for a decent price. Hopefully you didn't pay too much for it.

I won the auction for it on ebay....for 102.00 but havent paid for it yet. Do you think that hood could be made to work at all or no? If not hopefully I can get out of the hood, I got a gift certificate for Jegs for 600.00 to get a hood I want and I liked that one because it is different for a 97 TA. Dont know if they will return the money so I can spend it on one that will work.

I wish I could help you out more with what you need, but I don't know much about the '93-'97 T/A's. You may want to contact the manufacturer of the hood and see if they know of any ram air boxes that will work with the hood. In all honesty, I don't think your hood will work with the airbox you won on Ebay.

im pretty sure it wont fit, the 93-97 T/As have different ram air hoods, also the body lines are differnet. You could alawys convery to a 98+ body style though

just to give you an idea here is the factory ram air setup for the 93-97 bird's and T/A. usually runs around $350 if you can find someone that sells it..
![]() ![]() ![]() so I highly doubt you could make the 98-02 box work

Ok...I talked to Jegs and they said they will refund the gift cert I have with them. I just bought the 97 ram air hood as shown in the picture above. I am looking online to find an air box that will fit...they are discontinued thru GM =( Next main question is this, do I need to change my intake or will the oem one be ok?

These are 2 air box systems I found online...is one better than the other? Both say they will work with the oem ram air hood for the 97 which is what I will have on Monday =)

From reading those pages, they appear to be referring to the OEM "style" hoods that they sell. I don't think either one of those would fit properly with the SLP hood. The SLP hood is the one you're getting now, right?
EDIT: I just got an idea. When you receive the hood, take a picture of the underside of it, that way we should be able to see what kind of airbox will fit. |

Yeah, Suncoast also makes a 97 WS6 style hood that looks exactly like SLP ram air hood on the exterior. Not sure if the underside is similar or not. If the underside of the hood she is getting is anything like the underside of the Suncoast '97 WS6 hood, then this should work. 28001K - Ram Air Interface Air Box Kit ― SUNCOAST Ram Air Hoods Online Catalog To see the hood itself, click the pic under "See Also". There will be an underside hood pic on the page. |

but the hood that's being order is not functional so it's more than likely not going to have a cut out for the box.

You must have missed her post then... lol. I think she's referring to the hood on the red T/A you posted. Jegs sells a ram air hood from SLP and Harwood that look nearly identical to the hood on the red T/A above. The first hood she was referring to was a Harwood hood for a 97 that had the scoop style from a 98-02 WS6. |

I see what you mean. I saw that one too, but then she said she talked to Jegs and got her money back and purchased the other hood from them. It's all so confusing... lol. It would help if there weren't so many hoods made for our cars... ha ha.
