Default How to: Replace PCV in 3800

What you'll need:
10mm wrench
Pliers
ACDelco - CV948C (PCV valve)

Estimated time:
10-15 minutes

Step 1:
First locate where your PCV valve is; on the 3800 engine you can find it under this diamond shaped cover which is marked "PCV". Use your 10mm wrench to remove this.

Step 2:
Once you remove that cover what you'll find is the PCV valve inside a spring. Grab the spring with your pliers and the PCV valve should very easily lift right out along with the spring.

Step 3:
Simply pull the old PCV valve out from the spring, and place your new one back in. My old one was blackened and mangled, the new one is pictured above.

Step 4:
Put everything back together the way it was and you're done!!

Thanks.
Post the link here so I can work on it when I get a chance:

That thing is tiny. Where'd you get your new one from? Autozone has it for $2.29 but it looks a little different.

I got mine off ebay because the AZ near me didn't have one. And that one looks like the right shape but a different cast of metal; could just be the pic though.

Here's how I initially found the issue, you can see the bottom of my MAF screen is now stained from the oil that was passing through it.

Just checked mine out. Little sucker didn't want to come out. Spring and valve was black and full of gunk. I wiped it down some and inspected it. The inner "valve" was so gunked up it wouldn't move up or down unless I forcibly shook it. I'm going to go to vatozone right now and get a replacement. I hope this fixes things.
I'm going to try and get some of the gunk inside where the valve goes into the manifold out too, but idk how well I can clean it up.

What are some signs that show your PCV valve needs replacement, other then the oil stain?

Well, that was what initially made me replace the PCV valve. But my car was hesitating from time to time which is why I suggested that Superman try and change his. I thought the hesitation was due to my new exhaust not being tuned, but the PCV replacement fixed that for me.

I get a hesitation...idk if its the same, but it only happens now and then when I put it tot he floor, itll hesitate. Sometimes at low rpms too. Doesnt happen often, but ill keep this in mind. I may have to take it out and inspect it.

At the very least, it's worth an inspection. It's ungodly easy to do, doing those steps and taking pictures along the way took me a grand total of 8 minutes from opening to closing the hood. And it's a ~$5 fix.

I'm sure you could clean it, but to replace it with a brand new one is like $3 at AZ.
