Default making 12 into 36v

i was wondering if anyone knows how to amplify battery voltage from 12v to 36v... what "equipment" is needed etc?

I'm thinking about making an electric supercharger........ not because i think it will add an insane amount of power, but... more for fun as a project of boredom.

the thing is, i need 36 volts and i DONT want to hook up an extra alternator and install 3 batteries... screw that. i know that in audio, they have capacitors etc, which is good to have if you are running a huge amp and speakers etc... keeps your alternator from straining etc...

i'm not sure if those would help etc.... long story short, i don't know much about electric.

oh...... and... i'm not putting this on my z28.. no way in hell... may fry something.. lol

You would need a transformer. You can up the voltage as high as you want but you will lose current draw (assuming your battery wattage hasn't changed). If you went with extra alternators, you could keep the same current draw, because your total wattage will have gone up, but you would have to wire them in series. I have no idea where you would put them all!

Transformer is basically a metal rod or ring with a wire carrying the input voltage wrapped around it a bunch of times. You then take another wire (for the output voltage) and wrap it around on top of the other wire a different amount of times. The difference in the amount of coils in each wire will correlate to your voltage difference.
This is the equation:

Vs/Vp=Ns/Np

Where Vp and Vs are primary and secondary voltages, and Np and Ns are number of coils in the primary and secondary wires.

Btw... capacitors don't increase voltage. They store a charge like a battery so the amplifier will pull current from the capacitor instead of the battery. The capacitor draws current from the battery slowly... unlike the amplifer which would rape the battery everytime there's a "hit" in the bass.
